The Ministry of Education and Research launched in public consultation the draft calendar for enrolling children in primary education in the 2026-2027 school year. According to the document, parents of children who reach the age of 6 until August 31, 2026 inclusive, have the obligation to enroll them in the preparatory class.
According to the proposal, the period intended for submitting requests, evaluating children and issuing recommendations is March 16–30, 2026. The final form of the calendar will be approved after analyzing the comments received during the public consultation, as well as after the meeting of the Social Dialogue Commission (CDS) at the level of the Ministry of Education and Research.
Children who turn 6 between September 1 and December 31, 2026 inclusive can be enrolled in the preparatory class only on the basis of a recommendation, if their level of development is considered appropriate. For children attending kindergarten, the recommendation is issued by the preschool education unit, at the parents’ request. In the case of children who did not attend kindergarten or who returned from abroad, the evaluation is carried out by CJRAE or CMBRAE.
Parents who do not opt for enrolling their children in the preparatory class or whose children do not have an adequate level of development will be advised to enroll them in kindergarten, in the large group.

Preparation for enrollment in primary education
March 12, 2026:
Displaying the school constituencies and the proposed schooling plan, respectively the number of assigned preparatory classes, at each educational unit, including on its website, if any, and on the website of the school inspectorate.
Between March 31 and May 6, 2026
Completion of registration-type applications by parents/legal representatives, online or at the school where the children are applying for enrollment; Submitting/transmitting applications-type of enrollment at the school where children are requested to be enrolled; Validation of registration forms generated by the IT application.
May 6 – May 11, 2026 – The first stage of enrollment in primary education
During this period, the National Commission for the Enrollment of Children in Primary Education takes place the processing of the applications-type of enrolment, with the help of the computer application and the assignment of the children to the constituency school.
May 13 – May 20, 2026
Processing at the level of educational units, based on the information from the registration-type applications and from the documents submitted/transmitted by parents/legally established guardians/legal representatives, of applications requesting enrollment in an educational unit other than the constituency school, on the remaining free places.
May 21, 2026:
Display in educational units and on the website of the school inspectorate of registered candidates and the number of vacant places.
May 22, 2026: Second stage of enrollment in primary education
Communication, by displaying at educational units and on the school inspectorate’s website, the specific procedure for assigning children to available places, developed by the school inspectorate.
May 25 – May 29, 2026
Submitting/transmitting the registration-type application to the secretariat of the educational unit in the first position among the three options expressed for the second stage by the parents of children who were not included in any educational unit in the previous stage or who did not participate in the first stage.
June 2 – June 8, 2026
Validation of applications-type of enrollment at the educational unit in the first position in the options regarding the enrollment of children.
June 9 – June 15, 2026
Processing at the level of educational units the registration-type requests submitted by parents/legally established guardians/legal representatives, applying the specific procedure developed by the school inspectorate, based on the general criteria and the specific tie-breaking criteria, within the limits of available places; Completing in the IT application the data from the registration-type applications for the candidates registered at this stage.
June 16, 2026:
Display at each educational unit of the final lists of children enrolled in the preparatory class.
01 – 04 September 2026
Centralization and resolution by the school inspectorate of the requests of parents / legally established guardians / legal representatives of children who have not yet been enrolled in an educational unit. The resolution by the school inspectorate of any other situation related to enrollment in primary education, taking into account, with priority, the best interest of the child.
