The announcement was made by OpenAI, the company that owns the ChatGPT platform. Meta, which is itself an AI company, changed the rules specifically to prohibit third-party artificial intelligence solutions, writes News.ro.

Thus, the chatbot developed by OpenAI and the other third-party AI chatbots will stop working on WhatsApp starting from January 15, 2026.

Users will be able to export their ChatGPT conversations from WhatsApp by going to their profile and choosing the option to connect their ChatGPT account. In this way, chats on WhatsApp with ChatGPT will be synchronized with the ChatGPT application.

Meta decided to block third-party solutions on WhatsApp, so that the more than three billion users of the application have no choice but Meta AI if they want to use a chatbot within the communication platform.

The company’s decision will certainly be criticized by companies that develop AI solutions and, taking into account WhatsApp’s huge market share, lawsuits on this topic are not excluded.
