Openai announced on Tuesday that it will launch a dedicated version of Chatgpt, with parental controls, for users under 18, in the context in which the artificial intelligence company is pressed to improve safety measures for adolescents.

Openai also develops a technology that best predicts the age of users, but Chatgpt will default to the experience for minors if there are uncertainties or incomplete information, according to CNBC.
When Openai identifies a minor user, it will be automatically redirected to an age -adapted chatgpt experience, which blocks the graphic and sexual content and, in rare cases of acute suffering, may involve the authorities, the company said.
The safety updates come after the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has recently opened an investigation into several technology companies, including OpenAI, on how AI chatbot, such as Chatgpt, can have negative effects on children and adolescents.
Last month, Openai also explained how Chatgpt will manage “Sensitive situations”after a process filed by a family that accused the chatbot of involvement in the suicide of their teenage son.
“We put safety before confidentiality and freedom for adolescents; this is a new and strong technology, and we believe that minors need significant protection.”wrote the Openai CEO, Sam Altman, in a blog post on Tuesday.
In August, Openai had announced that it would introduce parental controls to help parents understand and model how teenagers use Chatgpt. On Tuesday, the company provided more details about these tools, which will be available at the end of the month.
The new options will allow parents to connect their ChatGPT account with that of the child by e-mail, to establish time intervals in which the adolescent cannot use the chatbot, to manage what functions are deactivated, to guide how the AI responds and to receive notifications if the adolescent goes through an acute state.
Chatgpt is intended for users of a minimum of 13 years, Openai said.
“These are difficult decisions, but after discussions with experts, we believe that this is the best solution and we want to be transparent about our intentions.”Altman wrote.
