“Today we celebrate NATO Day, a tradition that Romania is marking in a special way this year, celebrating 20 years as a full member of the Alliance. In the 20 years since its accession, Romania has strengthened its profile as a responsible ally, actively involved in promoting democratic values and principles, security and stability in the Euro-Atlantic space and beyond. Our country's valuable contributions are currently being substantially reflected in the Alliance's actions,” Marcel Ciolacu sent.
The Prime Minister mentioned that the anniversary of the 20th anniversary of NATO's active membership overlaps this year with the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the North Atlantic organization, which provides the framework for defensive political-military cooperation against the complex threats we face today”. “We see how the current regional and global security developments confirm the need for a common defensive concept, in the face of the challenges generated by Russian expansionist ambitions and illegal aggression against Ukraine”, added the Chief Executive.
The Prime Minister emphasized that despite the conflict very close to our country's borders, we benefit, as a NATO member state, from the most comprehensive security guarantee we have ever had.
“Being in the immediate vicinity of this conflict with no very close prospects of ending it, Romania benefits, as a NATO member state, from the most comprehensive security guarantee we have ever had and, in turn, will continue to show the same responsibility in the allied efforts to prepare and defend against the threats that the new strategic context generates.
Today, more than ever, the Eastern Flank, the eastern neighborhood, the Black Sea, have become topics of central importance on NATO's agenda. Romania benefits from a consolidated allied presence and a reinforced NATO deterrence and defense posture on the national territory and in the region”, Marcel Ciolacu mentioned.
According to the prime minister, for Romania, integration into the Euro-Atlantic structures represented a crucial moment, “by achieving a strategic goal of foreign policy and security, for which the political class and the entire Romanian society united their efforts”. And, during the two decades since his accession, “Romania has proven to be a reliable ally and a true provider of security and stability. We will continue to contribute as resolutely and be actively involved in ensuring Romania's security and in the Euro-Atlantic space”, added the prime minister, sending happy birthday wishes to Romania and the North Atlantic Treaty Alliance.
