Ciolacu stated that at the congress he aims to find in the leadership of the party young people who have been confirmed in the local elections, but he also wants to strengthen the professional side of the formation by attracting professionals who have been confirmed in the fields in which they are active.

He answered this way, when asked on Wednesday evening on Romania TV, when he will announce his candidacy for the position of president of Romania, writes Agerpres.
“At this moment, we had a National Political Council and we established a calendar, because my mandate and that of my colleagues in its leadership expires on August 22, the 4 years have passed, and it is normal, on August 24 we will have a congress, I tell you with certainty, I will run for the position of president of the Social Democratic Party. At this moment we have a commission that makes the submission calendar for the position of party president, how to make the motion list, the whole team, what is the calendar for those who want to participate in the internal competition for the position of president of Romania, this time , not PSD’s. This calendar is fair to my colleagues who want to run. We will see until August 24th, first we choose the head of the party and then the candidate for the position of president is chosen. If I decide to run and if I receive the vote of my colleagues, my friends and my comrades, then I will also take this on.”stated Ciolacu.
Asked if, in such conditions regarding the organization of the congress, and considering that, over time, the PSD presidential candidate was the head of the party and if he will be the first exception, he said: “Anything is possible. No, no I have a reservation. You know, I’m not a shy person.”
“Yes, I started when I was young. Now another phenomenon happened, as all the elections were in the same year, the congress somehow fell between the two elections, between the European parliamentary and local elections and the general elections and those for the position of president of Romania. It’s normal, now I want to bring new people into the leadership of the party, who were confirmed by the vote of the Romanians in the previous elections, young people, I’ll give you an example, Mr. Soldan from Suceava, Mr. Simonis, from Timiş Hopincă, from Sector 2. On the other hand, the professionalization of a party must always be done cyclically. I will also open for new people, who have confirmed certain things in their daily life, I will open the party for these people congress. I wish, with this candidacy for the position of party president, to open the doors wide again for other people, who, I repeat, have confirmed, socio-professionally, each one, people who have left a mark in the development of this country”stated Ciolacu.
Regarding a possible return to the PSD of Mircea Geoană, the deputy general secretary of NATO at the end of his term, and his candidacy for the presidency from the Social Democrats, he said: “He did not express his desire. You know that the first thing, you have to express, to want. Mr. Geoană was the president of the party”.
In the same context, Ciolacu did not rule out having a discussion with Geoana on the topic of presidential candidacy, when asked in this regard.
“It is possible to have such a discussion with Mr. Geoana, it’s something normal. I’m really a simple person, I’m an open person, if we have a project for the country, ok, what does development mean, if we have chemistry with each other, we think about way, if we have the same principles. stated Ciolacu.
