Ciolacu: We want to give Romanian products equal chances on the market with imported products and encourage their commercialization in other countries as well

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu discussed, on Tuesday, at the Victoria Palace, with representatives of local store chains and distribution in the food trade about the solutions through which the Government can support Romanian producers, distributors and retailers.

“We will support Romanian products, small local store chains and distributors who buy goods from our local producers! I talked today with the representatives of these stores, some of them being producers, along with the main distributors in the country, about the concrete solutions through which we develop the Romanian capital in this area of ​​the economy. My priority is to help companies to produce in Romania, and their goods to reach stores owned by Romanians at a fair price, which reflects the work done”, stated Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, adding that it is “convinced that the PSD solution to continue capping the commercial addition to basic foods until the end of the year, voted today in Parliament, is legitimate and corresponds to the greatest expectation of Romanians”.

The Prime Minister stated that he wanted to have this meeting for “a see what the Romanian state can do for local producers”. “I wanted to have this discussion, to see what the Romanian state can do for domestic producers, many of whom also have their own sales flow, considering certain problems that they signal to us. We want to offer Romanian products equal chances on the market with imported products and even encourage their commercialization in other countries as well“, declared the prime minister.

According to the Government, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu appreciated this discussion on the topics addressed by those directly involved in the production and distribution of domestic food products as very useful.

The impact of fiscal measures

According to the quoted source, the prime minister discussed, among other things, with the representatives of local store chains and distribution in the food trade about the impact of measures such as the 1% tax on turnover or the capping of commercial additions to some categories of products, the de-bureaucratization of the interaction with the state institutions, the implementation of the RetuRO Guarantee-Return system, accessing European funds for trade and distribution, as well as about the applicable regulations in the labor force field.

According to the Executive, representatives of local store chains and distribution in the food trade “they thanked Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu for the willingness to discuss their proposals, which will be analyzed at the level of ministries and institutions with attributions, in order to find the best solutions”.

Deputy Prime Minister Marian Neacșu, the head of the Prime Minister's Chancellery, Alexandru-Mihai Ghigiu, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Florin Barbu, and the Minister of Investments and European Projects, Adrian Câciu, also participated in today's meeting.

The Chamber of Deputies adopted, on Tuesday, a draft law that allows the extension of the price reduction of 17 agricultural and basic food products until December 31, given that the deadline expires on March 31. The law is now going to promulgation, on the table of Klaus Iohannis.
