August 10, 2018 showed how important it is to defend democracy and the right to free expression, PNL leader Nicolae Ciucă said on Saturday, referring to the “political assault coordinated by the PSD leadership at the time”.

“August 10, 2018 showed us how important it is to defend democracy and the right to free speech in the face of any regime that tries to suppress the voice of the people. We must never forget those dark moments in recent history and we must do everything it is in our power that such events never happen again”the PNL president sent on his Facebook page.
Nicolae Ciucă also declared on August 10, 2018 that he is staying “a symbolic moment, in which Romanians showed that they can mobilize to defend justice from the political assault coordinated by the PSD leadership at the time”.
He denounced the “disproportionate reaction” of law enforcement against “those who were peacefully exercising their right to protest dealt a serious blow to citizens’ trust in state institutions at the time”.
“We must continue to build a state where every citizen knows that he is respected and listened to by the authorities and that justice is functional, efficient and fair”the PNL president concluded.
