“We received the official visit to Romania of a delegation from the Parliament of the Republic of Iraq, led by Mrs. Dylan Ghafour Saleh, the president of the Commission for Foreign Policy. For Romania, the security of this traditional trading partner is essential for the stability of the Middle East region. Iraq is a large producer of oil and gas, with which we could resume energy cooperation,” wrote Nicolae Ciucă on his Facebook page.
The Senate President stated that Iraq wants to deepen trade cooperation “by importing grain from us” and attracting Romanian investors.
“I told the Iraqi parliamentarians and the committee chairman that Baghdad can count on our support in reforming the state institutions, but also in the economic reconstruction of the country. The Iraqi side wants to deepen commercial cooperation by importing grain from us and attracting Romanian investments to their country.
Facilitating Iraq-EU-NATO dialogue
On a diplomatic level, Bucharest facilitates the dialogue between Iraq and the EU or NATO, in economic or security aspects. Romania already has an active and visible contribution to the stability of Iraq through our military presence there. I know the situation intimately, taking part, as a general, in the Antica Babylonia mission carried out in Iraq in 2004, when I led Romanian troops in the first battle that actively involved Romanian soldiers after 1945″. concluded Ciucă.
