Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, Deputy Prime Minister Tánczos Barna and Minister of Development, Public Works and Administration, Cseke Attila, had a new round of consultations with representatives of the associative structures of the local authorities, during an organized meeting at the Victoria Palace. Their purpose: accelerating the process of administrative reform, to reduce public spending and improve the efficiency of the local bureaucratic apparatus.
The discussions focused on a complex set of measures in an advanced stage of government training. Among the proposals analyzed are the reduction of the personnel from the local administrations (mayors, local and county councils and local police), but also the application of a unique payroll for the employees of the local public administration.
According to an official statement, the measures are aimed at not only the efficiency of the expenses, but also the increase of the responsibility and the performance in the public office.
Another important topic was the efficiency of public order structures. The government takes into account the limitation of the number of local policemen, in parallel with clarifying their duties, to avoid overlaps with the competences of the National Police.
According to the same source, the reform of the property tax system was also on the agenda, given that the application of new fiscal measures represents a commitment to Romania assumed by the National Plan of Redress and Resility (PNRR). Authorities carefully analyze the impact of these changes on local communities.
In addition, it was also discussed about the decentralization of the activities of gambling authorization, as well as the possibility of transferring assets from the state ownership to the local authorities.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the main associative structures of the local public administration: the National Union of County Councils, the Association of Municipalities, the City Association and the Commune Association. They presented their views and formulated concrete proposals regarding the package of reforms in preparation, but also observations related to particular situations in the territory.
Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan emphasized, at the end of the meeting, the absolute need for the reform, in a context in which the budgetary resources are more limited.
“The Romanian state no longer has the financial capacity to continue to support the current expenses with the public administration. We now have the opportunity, through the reform of the local administration, to correct the negative accumulation. said Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan at the end of the meeting.
