FC Voluntari is engaged in the fight to avoid relegation, and the semi-final of the Romanian Cup falls exactly between two games of great importance for Ilfoveni. On April 13, Florin Pîrvu's team plays at home in the Super League with Oțelul Galați, and on April 20, away, with Poli Iaşi. The two matches are scheduled at an interval of one week, and between them is the match in Hunedoara, on April 17.

FC Voluntari is the only one of the 4 teams engaged in the semifinals that does not have a license to participate in European cups. If it wins the Romanian Cup, the finalist will not go to the Europa League but the 3rd place in the Superliga, according to information from FRF. On the other hand, Corvinul can play in the Europa League if they win the competition. The Hunedoers do not have the right to promotion in the Superliga, but they have a license for European cups.
In the other semifinal, U Cluj and Oțelul will meet. Both games in the Romanian Cup will be played on April 17, with the final scheduled for May 15, at the stadium in Sibiu, where last year's last act was also played. It should be noted that no team from the play-off reached the ace “box” of the KO competition.
FC Voluntari has the Romanian Cup in its records, won in 2017, after a victory with Astra Giurgiu, in the penalty shootout. In the same season, Ilfovni also managed to win the Romanian Supercup against the FC Viitorul team, with a score of 1-0.
