Costreie, after the meeting with the education unions: We will support the cause of a well-paid teacher, so that he is well motivated

The Minister of Education, Sorin Costreie, had this week a first meeting with the unions in the field, one of the topics addressed being the salary of teaching staff.

“Let’s listen. With this thought, I started, yesterday, the first meeting with the leaders of the trade union federations in education (pre-university and higher), together with the delegated minister Sorin-Gabriel Ionescu. what did i hear Legitimate concerns, behind many questions that may seem ‘small’… How much do we value the teacher’s work? We talked about salaries and the budget for 2027. We will look for solutions together with the Government and the Ministry of Finance, and I want the unions to be at the table with us all this way. We will support together the cause of a well-paid teacher, so that he is well motivated”, Costreie wrote on Facebook on Wednesday”, according to Agerpres.

He recalled the de-bureaucratization in schools, stating that the “hypothesis of defensive bureaucracy: some papers are made not because they are needed, but because they ‘cover us'” must be taken into account.

“What kind of school do we want? One where no child and no teacher is left alone in the face of violence. This is also where the question of papers comes in: how many of them serve something and how many just keep us away from the students? The subject is a concern for me too: I have already announced a study on de-bureaucratization, to see where the burden on teachers comes from. (…) I think we also need to think seriously about the hypothesis of defensive bureaucracy: some papers are made not because they are needed, but because they “cover us”, he pointed out.

At the meeting with the unions, topics such as teaching standards, classroom numbers or hourly pay were also discussed.

“Returning to yesterday’s meeting – the teaching norm, classroom staff, hourly payment, scholarships, commuting and the way we train future teachers, the situation of colleagues who did not receive the teaching career bonus were also discussed. Regarding the teaching career bonus: we will send clarifications in the coming days. Regarding the measures of Law 141, I also believe that some of them should be reanalyzed and this appears explicitly in the government program as well. I will not I promise numbers that I can’t guarantee, because behind the numbers there are always people. I think the dialogue starts with the willingness to admit that one’s own perspective can be incomplete. And when you make decisions that affect the lives of others, this willingness becomes a responsibility,” said the minister.
