Hospitals and sections of infectious diseases begin to face an increase in the number of patients presenting with symptoms of Covid-19. They are relatively mild forms of disease, which do not require hospitalization, but things can be complicated.

Although somewhat unusual for summer period, more and more patients are experiencing symptoms similar to a respiratory infection: nasal congestion, headaches, muscle pain, weakness, fever, sore throat, etc. If they have inspiration to do a test to detect Covid-19, some of the SAR-19.
The cases, moreover, began to multiply to the guard rooms, confirms the doctors.
“There are enough cases of Covid in Bucharest, but it is good to come to the hospital. Why should he come to the hospital? Because the severity of the disease is established there, if it has comorbidities, what kind of comorbidities and the possibility of adverse evolution. And at present there is treatment for Covid-19 ”explains Prof. Emanoil Ceauşu, primary physician infectious and tropical diseases within the Clinical Hospital of Infectious and Tropical Diseases “Dr. Victor Babes.
It is not unusual, adds the doctor, are the subtypes, variants, which have been circulating lately, but no strain is the problem.
“Man is the problem, the ability to cope with the infection, as it reacts to the infection, the presence of comorbidity, which aggravates the disease, and age. The older age you have, the greater the risk of a more severe form ”, complete the doctor.
Covid-19 is a disease that penetrates the body on the respiratory tract, has many symptoms common to those of a respiratory infection, but affects the whole body, the virus being found “Above all, in all the organs. ”
“The virus has not lost its qualities. It circulates stems that are a little milder to the initial stem, because any micro-organism does not want to kill the host, he seeks to multiply in the host.Dr. Ceaușu detailed.
The more frequent contact during the holidays and the participation in activities where collectives of people gather are possible explanations for increasing incidence.
“Humanity has passed to a stage of living with the Sars-Cov-2 virus”
We are in the phase where we live with the SARS-COV-2 virus, explains Adrian Marinescu, primary infectious diseases, manager of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases “Prof. Dr. Matei Balș”.
“With the conclusion of the pandema I went to a stage, and I say not only Romania, mankind has passed a coexistence with the SARS-COV-2 virus. This stage of coexistence has some fluctuations. Sometimes it is more harmonious, sometimes less. By the way, the number of cases of the last period, I would say that I have noticed in Romania – of course, I rely on the experience of “Matei Balș” – that it is increase, that the number of cases has increased, from situations where they were extremely rare, practically isolated, to a few cases every day. It does not mean that there are necessarily severe cases. Exceptionally, a patient arrives in intensive care ”, said the doctor.
Of the total of those who come to the hospital, only about 15-20% need hospitalization. Although the number of presentations is higher than in other periods, it is not an increased aggression from the virus, Dr. Marinescu stressed, but “There are some cases that refer to that living.”
“Starting from the fact that the virus has remained extremely contagious, it can be seen that small outbreaks appear in the family, situations occur when from a case, to the workplace, there are more. Of course, they are now perceived as a cold most of the time. And the complications generally appear in people who have a problematic immune system“, The doctor said.
It is or does not need vaccination
Although the virus is contagious, at the moment the vaccination would not be a measure that is applied at the general population level, says Dr. Marinescu.
“It should be discussed or taken into account the vaccination for certain categories at risk – by age, by chronic diseases – or in the case of medical staff. That is, practically, it is a protection as it should probably be done when vaccination, but a little different as an approach. At the flu vaccination, however, I should have, at the population level, a higher coverage. Here we are discussing punctual cases and it is not something to say in Romania, but it tells it all the world ”, the doctor thinks.
An updated vaccine would be useful, and at this time there are discussions in both the United States and Europe, but for selected cases. “Let’s start from the idea that the immense majority of cases means mild cases, which do not involve complications, so we cannot say that it is a big problem for public health at the moment, it has nothing to do with pandemic or what has been previously”, said doctor Adrian Marinescu. “It should be a variant that refers to the present moment”added the doctor.
When to worry about
Even if most cases do not pose big problems, it should be taken into account that the virus is easy to transmit and that the grandmother’s family or those who have greater health problems may make a severe form, so if we have suspicion, or even certainty (because there are tests in pharmacies) to an infection we should isolate ourselves. Otherwise, as we are careful in the case of a viruse, and in the case of Covid-19 it is necessary to pay attention to the evolution of the disease.
“In the situation where indeed, at one point, you breathe hard, the general condition does not improve, it passes a period of 3-4-5 days and things do not look better, continue the situation you are feverish and so on, it is exactly what you would do when you have a virus or even flu. (…) You can get in touch with your family doctor and, especially if you are a person who has chronic diseases, he has a certain age, the family doctor will probably recommend you to consult infectious diseases, because you are a person who prone to a severe form. “said Dr. Marinescu what we should worry about.
The specialist is the one who can indicate treatment with antivirals, recommended medicines for people at risk.
“We do not recommend the antiviral to anyone and the antiviral should be selected for patients who usually reach the hospital and have a higher risk of complications. And for them, it is definitely antiviral ”concluded the doctor.
