The candidate of the Coalition for the presidential elections, Crin Antonescu, claims that he has not spoken with President Klaus Iohannis since 2014 and does not count on any support from the current head of state.

Crin Antonescu specified that “under no circumstances” it is not based on a support from Klaus Iohannis.
“I think that the president really has something else to do at the end of his mandate, than to support one candidate or another. Of course, I hope to have his lordship’s vote, like that of any Romanian citizen, but I have no indication, or desire, or understanding in this sense. Absolutely not,” said Crin Antonescu, at Digi 24.
On Tuesday, January 21, the coalition candidate said it would have been “a better decision” from President Iohannis to end his mandate.
“For the sake of democracy, for the sake of stability and a minimum of trust that must exist between a majority of citizens and those who govern, yes, it would have been better for Mr. Iohannis to end his presence in Cotroceni when the usual mandate (his concluded – no) – December 21, after the Parliament was established and the Government was sworn in“, declared Crin Antonescu.
