The former Minister of Education, Daniel Funeriu, who announced his intention to run for the first position in the state, claimed that the suspension of Crin Antonescu’s candidacy and the reasons cited show that “the parties that gave him the candidate’s stamp and whistle chose stupid” and that Antonesorry “he is not on his feet.”

“The suspension of Crin’s candidacy and the reasons cited show that:
1) The parties that put him as a candidate made a bad choice. I said this from the first moment and here, reality proved me right. I hope they won’t try Ponta now; it would mean having the relics of the USL “saint” on display in the political showcase.
2) Crin is not on his feet: how to lead a country when you are not even on your feet and cannot discuss with those who proposed you?
3) Good people: presidential candidacy is serious business, for serious people. It’s like “he’ll think better of it”. Crin, what did you do when you told us you would run? That you just told us that to think, you didn’t think. And you wanted to rule a country? Hi Criiiiin! Wake up!
Crin: these elections are about our country, not about your pride and ego. I assure you that we will win. Because we are serious and have consistency. And yes, there are more of us!”Daniel Funeriu wrote on his Facebook page.
Crin Antonescu, appointed candidate of the governing coalition, announced on Saturday evening that he is suspending the agreement with the leaders of the Power due to their lack of commitment. One of the grievances is that no date has been set for the presidential election.
“Unilaterally, I consider this candidacy suspended. I received a proposal to be the candidate of a political coalition, I accepted it, I assumed it, it is an assumption from which I do not back down and I am willing at any moment to see it through to the end. We found that the other party to this agreement, the four political leaders, were not sufficiently empowered when they signed this agreement. For this reason I consider it suspended until their lordships say whether this agreement remains in force”said Crin Antonescu to Digi24.
PSD, PNL, UDMR and the minority group agreed on December 23, 2024 to have a common presidential candidate in the person of Crin Antonescu, the decision to be voted on in the leadership forums of each party.
Later, on December 28, they established the organization of the first round of the presidential elections on March 23. The second round would be organized on April 6.
In order for the two polls to be organized on the agreed dates, the Executive must issue the decision by January 7.
