David Popovici had a remarkable performance at the European Swimming Championships in Paris, where he managed to win two continental titles. The Romanian swimmer won both the 100-meter freestyle and the 200-meter freestyle.
With the end of the competition, Romania occupied the 9th position in the medal ranking drawn up exclusively based on the results of the swimming events. The same place was occupied by the tricolor delegation in the general classification of the European Championships.
Romania ends the European Swimming Championships in Paris in the top 10
The European Swimming Championships in Paris came to an end on Sunday, and Romania did not have any representatives in the competitions scheduled on the last day. The tricolor delegation ended the participation with three appearances in the finals of the swimming events.
David Popovici was involved in two of these finals, while Theodor Andrei Proca represented Romania in the last act of the 1,500 meters freestyle event. The swimmer from CSM Pitesti finished the race in seventh position, after stopping the timer at 15:02.18.
The performances of David Popovici decisively contributed to the positioning of Romania in the top ten nations of the medal ranking drawn up after the end of the swimming trials. The Tricolori are in 9th place, tied with the Czech Republic. Great Britain leads the hierarchy, with 14 medals, including 8 gold. Italy is in second place and has the richest numerical record, with 20 medals, but only 6 of them are gold. The podium is completed by the neutral B team, which collected 19 medals, including 5 European titles.

Romania occupies the 9th position in the overall medal ranking of the European Swimming Championships in Paris, a competition that brings together all disciplines. The tricolor athletes have so far won three gold medals, two of which bear the signature of David Popovici, and the third belongs to Cătălin Preda, in high jumps.
Cătălin Preda managed to climb the highest step of the podium after an excellent performance in the last part of the competition. In the fourth leg, the Romanian bet on a spectacular jump, with a degree of difficulty of 5.2, which brought him a total of 411.60 points and, implicitly, the European title.
The other representative of Romania in this trial, Constantin Popovici, did not have the desired end. He missed the execution in the last leg and finished the competition in seventh place with 325.40 points. The conditions of the competition were different from those the athletes are used to, the platform being located only 20 meters away.
