The president of USR, Dominic Fritz, convened the Political Committee of the party for Friday, at 12.00, in order to vote on the proposals for the leadership of the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Economy.
According to the decision of the leadership of the formation, the current Minister of Economy, Radu Miruță, is proposed for the position of Minister of Defense, and will also hold the position of Deputy Prime Minister. For the Economy portfolio, USR proposes Senator Irineu Darău.
Dominic Fritz said on Thursday that Radu Miruță has a good knowledge of the Defense field, being directly involved in the development of the SAFE program, through which Romania attracted significant European funds for endowment of the army.
“Radu Miruţă has proven in recent months not only that he can lead a ministry, but he was also one of the architects of the SAFE program, through which Romania attracted over 16 billion euros, with which we will endow the army. He knows this portfolio very well. He held many discussions, he was responsible for the Defense industry. That is why I have no doubt that he will be an excellent Minister of Defense”said the USR leader.
Regarding the proposal for the Ministry of Economy, Fritz emphasized the professional profile and integrity of Senator Irineu Darău. He is a computer scientist by profession, with long experience in the private sector, and represents Brașov County in the Parliament.
“Irineu Darău is a computer scientist, Olympian. He worked for many years in the private sector. He knows the field of digitalization very well. He is a senator from Braşov, where a good part of the Defense industry is. He will be responsible for tourism, and for digitalization, and for state companies, and for entrepreneurship. He, like Radu Miruţă, has the integrity and courage that is needed to make reforms.” Dominic Fritz also said.
The final decision regarding the two nominations is to be taken during the meeting of the USR Political Committee.
