Dortmund got rid of Edin Terzic, the man who took the team to the Champions League final

Edin Terzic has resigned from Borussia Dortmund, even though he managed to take his team to the Champions League final this season. Although he produced an exceptional performance, the coach could not consolidate his position in front of the important players, who made him leave. One of the vehement ones was Matt Hummels, who would have conditioned his continuation with the team on the departure of the manager.

Terzic still had a contract with Dortmund for one more season, but he has decided to end his adventure at the team where he has been active for the last 4 years, rising from the second position to the interim one and from the technical director to that of head coach.

“Dear Borussia fans, although I am in a lot of pain now, I would like to inform you that from today I will be leaving BVB. It was a great honor to lead this great club to winning the German Cup and, more recently, to the Champions League final. I had a chat with the officials after our final at Wembley and after ten years at BVB, including five years on the technical staff and two-and-a-half years as manager, I feel that the team is about to enter a new era and should to stay out of it,” Edin Terzic told the German press.

Terzic will be replaced by the second

“Anyone who knows me knows that during this decision-making process of the last few weeks, two hearts beat in my chest. But even after intense discussion, my basic feeling didn't change. I wish Borussia Dortmund all the best and I'm not saying goodbye, but see you soon”was the message sent by Terzic.

The general manager of Borussia Dortmund, Hans-Joachim Watzke, also confirmed the parting with Terzic and assured him that he will always be part of the Borussia family: “Edin Terzic has done an excellent job during his stay here. We are all very grateful to him. Edin and I will always be friends. He will always be a Borussia man and part of the BVB family.”

According to Bild, the German-Croatian coach will be replaced by Nuri Sahin, who was his second. In just 6 months, he managed to win the locker room over to his side, with the German media pointing out that the team's leaders want him as their head coach.
