The Minister of Investments and European Projects, Dragoș Pîslaru, harshly criticized the former governors and “the ignorant politicians” which challenges Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, arguing that the current recession reflects a necessary correction of the Romanian economic model.
Dragoș Pîslaru states that, thanks to his academic training, he can explain why an economic downturn can actually be beneficial: “The recession is actually a dramatic recovery in the pattern of economic growth”while “informed politicians” criticizes Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.
“No, no Bolojan led Romania to the fence in the few months since he was prime minister. Romania was led to the fence as a result of the brilliant economic strategy of the governments led by our wonderful economist from Buzău and his gang of experts”Pîslaru wrote in a post on Facebook.
He denounced the behavior “politicians who know” which, according to him, mocked public money: “Dozens of clueless politicians who became ministers overnight and, worse, prime ministers, mocked the public purse. Who are they? Are those “smart” guyswho have worked all their lives for the state and with all that: they fly to Monaco in private planes, but I can’t find the invoices anymore; they take their Rolex off their wrist and hide it in their pocket when they go out for press conferences; they drive 100,000 euro cars, rented from the “ex” wife’s company; they take their vacations in luxury resorts with their mistresses, whose companies are subscribed to at the public expense“.
“Everyone gives him lessons, but no one wants to take his place”
The minister pointed out that many of these politicians “they are welcome in lukewarm positions at the state” and sabotages Bolojan: “I mean, we finally have one who is putting all his proven reputation as a good administrator on the line to get us out of the hole, and what does our opportunistic politician do? He sabotages him where he catches him, for fear of Bolojan growing up! Everyone gives him lessons, but no one wants to take his place“.
Pîslaru also explained from an economic point of view why the criticisms regarding the -0.2% decrease are unjustified: “As an economist with graduate studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science, Harvard Business School, the University of Vienna and a doctorate in economics from the Romanian Academy, I can explain how absurd it is to complain that there is a -0.2% seasonally adjusted decrease to a deficit reduction of 2.6%, given that investments have taken over most of the reduction in consumption”.
Finally, the minister sent a signal to former governors and critical politicians: “The honest and good-faith people in Romania understand very well that efficiency is needed in governmentin the town halls and in the administration, that we have to cut off state companies, that we have lived too long on debt, that we can no longer fill public institutions with nephews and mistresses. My message to these “smart” guys is as clear as possible: if you don’t want to help fix the disaster you all caused, at least have the decency and common sense not to stand in the way of those who are trying.”.
