Elena Lasconi, candidate for the head of the USR after the withdrawal of Cătălin Drula, sets three conditions to run in the presidential elections: to be elected president of the USR, to have a majority in the National Bureau of the party and to be able to impose a new general secretary.

If she is elected president of USR, but without having a majority in the National Bureau, Elena Lasconi says that she will resign the next day from the head of the party and will not enter the race for Cotroceni. The General Secretary of the party is elected with two-thirds of the votes by the National Bureau, according to news.ro.
Lasconi made the statements in the Insder politic show, which will be broadcast on Saturday, from 12:00, on Prima TV.
Political insider: Do you want to be the head of USR?
Elena Lasconi: I think it’s the best solution. I don’t see anything else. Why am I saying this? Because the majority of my colleagues – now we will see by voting – believe that I would be suitable for a presidential candidacy. Well, and if I am prepared for a presidential candidacy, in such a tough fight, you need all the instruments of power, namely: to be president, to have the National Office and to have the general secretariat. Put yourself in my place! You cannot enter the most important competition, namely the presidential candidacy, which carries a lot of responsibility, a lot, without having the tools of power. It cannot be one with work and responsibility, and another with power. Basically, you could be sabotaged.
Political insider: From your own party?
Lasconi: It is very possible. Why not?
Political Insider: Did this happen in USR?
Lasconi: I’m absolutely convinced that yes, but I’m not going to vocalize it now.
Political insider: What do you do if next Friday you are elected USR president, and on Saturday you find that you do not have a majority in the National Office?
Lasconi: I’m waiting for Sunday, to see if I can make a majority in the National Office. If not, I will resign. Good health and luck, you can’t force love!
Political Insider: Do you resign the day after being elected president?
Lasconi: Yes.
Political insider: So either your colleagues give you total power in the party, or you don’t accept to be president.
Lasconi: But it is not total. It is the majority.
Political insider: Majority means total.
Lasconi: Total means to have 100%.
Political insider: If you have 50% plus 1 you can lead. And Mr. Drula had the same majority.
Lasconi: The same happens in the other parties.
Political insider: But you want to be a different party, not like the rest.
Lasconi: Of course we are different. But imagine that you are entering an electoral competition. You cannot afford not to have the full power of the party on your side. And let all the people go
forward with you
Political insider: And if you don’t have a majority in the National Office, you don’t even run for president anymore?
Lasconi: No! That’s what I said. But still I think I will have majority.
