Elias Charalambous resigned from FCSB. The Cypriot was the longest-serving coach in the history of the red-blues

FCSB ended the regular season in the Superliga in 7th place, and instead of duels with Universitatea Craiova, CFR, Rapid or Dinamo, they will have meetings with Metaloglobus or Csikszereda. The poor course of the team made coach Elias Charalambous announce his resignation last night, after the defeat with Cluj University, 1-3 at home.

The Cypriot, the longest-serving coach in the short history of FCSB, announced that he would leave the champions because he did not achieve his goal – qualifying for the play-offs. Charalambous stated that he was determined to take this step regardless of the result against the “red caps”, the team needing a shock to unlock.

He sees no chance for FCSB to win European cups

“The team is aiming to go to Europe. I think a shock is needed. It’s my last day here. It was the last game. It’s been two great years (no came on March 30, 2023), but someone has to take responsibility. It’s a good shock for the team. The way we played today, there’s no chance we’ll go to Europe. There’s not much to say. A beautiful story that’s over. It’s the last day. No questions and respect me”said Elias Charalambous in the flash interview. The same step will be taken by his second-in-command, Mihai Pintilii, who announced via an SMS that he will leave the team as of Sunday.

In his three years at FCSB, Elias Charalambous ticked off 170 matches, in which he achieved 88 wins and 41 draws, with the red-blues losing 41 times under his command. He leaves Gigi Becali’s team with two Superliga titles, two Romanian Supercups and a European spring.
