Billionaire Elon Musk said on Thursday that the technology used by the company Neuralink has allowed blind monkeys to see with the help of its brain chip technology.

Blindsight is Neuralink's next product after Telepathy“, Elon Musk wrote on the X platform (formerly Twitter).

The head of Tesla and SpaceX tweeted on Thursday that “the Blindsight implant already works in monkeys“.

If at first the graphics will have a low resolution, such as “early Nintendo graphics“, in the future it could surpass normal human vision, says the billionaire.

The resolution will be low at first, like Nintendo's early graphics, but could eventually surpass normal human visionMusk said.

Musk added that “No monkey has ever died or been seriously injured by a Neuralink device!“.

Telepathy was Neuralink's first device, the chip allows users to control computers with their minds. In January, Musk announced that a patient was recovering well after having a chip implanted in his brain, and later said the patient could move a computer mouse cursor with his mind.

On Thursday, Neuralink posted a video of the patient, who is a quadriplegic, playing chess using only mind control.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the company's first test last May.

In the patient's brain, in the part that controls the intention to move, 64 flexible wires were inserted, they are so fine that they are implanted by a robot. The wires then allow the implant to record and transmit brain signals to an app, which then decodes how a person decides to move. The implant is powered by a battery that can be charged wirelessly.
