The European Public Prosecutor’s Office is investigating possible fraud with European funds at the Câmpulung town hall led by Elena Lasconi, the USR candidate in the presidential elections. “I have nothing to hide”reacted the USR leader, on Facebook.

“On March 27, 2024, the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) attached to the Bucharest Court received a notification from a private person who raised suspicions regarding the commission by private companies, in 2023, of the crimes of using or presenting false, inaccurate or incomplete documents or statements, resulting in the unlawful obtaining or possession of funds or assets from the European Union budget. After careful verification of the elements contained in the report, on 2 April 2024, the EPPO took the decision to open an investigation. At this stage, the investigation is on the facts (“in rem”). No further details will be released at this stage. Whenever we are able to say anything else about this investigation, we will do so proactively.” sent the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, for the Truth.
Elena Lasconi reacted with a message on Facebook and claims that “I haven’t done anything wrong, I’m not stopping from my path.”
“Great desperation for the PSD that they began to spread information through the press that a project with European funds from the City Hall would have been checked by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office. We have always been transparent! We ensured that the projects were carried out and implemented according to the funding requests, and as the partnership leader we fulfilled our obligations. As for the partners, through the partnership agreement they assumed their own activities, the performance of which they should have ensured. We are ready to present all the information related to the project, if necessary. Until this moment, no information has been requested regarding this project, nor have I been notified of the existence of any investigation.” transmitted Elena Lasconi.
She also says she doesn’t have one “nothing to hide” and that it attracted European funds to Câmpulung as “the city budget for 40 years”.
“I had two or three checks a day from all institutions in Romania. Nothing wrong was found. Check out the European ones too, I answer any question! The reality is that we brought European funds to Câmpulung as much as the city’s budget for 40 years, this community is developing. And I want to turn this successful local model into a national project. Dan Barna, five years ago, was bullied the same way. They invented a file for him with European funds, it turned out that they were fabricated accusations. The truth eventually came out. Late, but it broke! I am not intimidated by all these moves by some old politicians, who feel the despair that Romania wants a different path. Let us be healthy, because PSD-PNL messes will keep flowing! I’ve done nothing wrong, I’m not going out of my way!”Lasconi wrote.
The EPPO is the independent prosecutor’s office of the European Union. It is responsible for investigating, prosecuting and judging crimes against the EU’s financial interests.
