Taylor Swift will be performing at major UK stadiums including London's Wembley, Edinburgh's Murrayfield, Liverpool's Anfield and more, with over 500,000 tickets on sale. But, despite the generous offer, the demand was much higher, a situation that scammers seem to take full advantage of.
Tickets for Taylor Swift originally went on sale through official retailers Ticketmaster and AXS in August 2023. However, they sold out almost instantly. And while Ticketmaster released its own wave of resale tickets soon after, they too sold out extremely quickly. As a result, fans have now turned to any number of sites to secure their seats at the various concerts that will kick off this year.
Police in Edinburgh have warned Taylor Swift fans “to remain vigilant”, after a series of fake tickets appeared online. In the past two weeks, the police report says, 16 fraudulent ticket sales have been reported, with those duped losing a total of around £5,000.
“The amount of money suspected to have been fraudulently lost is estimated to be in excess of £5,000. Many of these frauds take place on online market platforms. Please be vigilant and ensure you purchase tickets from legitimate sources by verifying any bank details provided!”, the Edinburgh police stated in the statement.
They went on to offer some advice to fans: “Before purchasing, please check the ticket details carefully to ensure their authenticity. Check that the event information is correct, including the date, time and venue. Be aware of the seating section or assigned seats, which may indicate fraudulent tickets. (…) When buying tickets online, prioritize secure payment methods to protect your financial information. Credit cards and trusted online payment platforms provide additional protection against fraudulent transactions. Avoid paying with cash, bank transfers or insecure payment methods”.
