The Minister of Education, Daniel David, told “Adevărul” that the discipline “History”, now taught in high school under a generic formula, will be reconnamed and renamed. The new title, which will be established together with the Romanian Academy, will be the “History of Romania” or “History of Romanians”.

“I will bring the history called as it helps the children to understand how they can use it. That is, the history of Romania or the history of the Romanians. I will discuss with the Romanian Academy to see what the title will be”, said the minister.

He explained that the current formula, in which students in grades IX -XII go through national and universal history topics under the umbrella of the same discipline, did not produce the expected results. “So far you were simply in each class: 9th, XA, XI, XII, History discipline and you were doing various topics. Some of national history, some of universal history. It was a model, I tried it, I saw that it is not necessary to return things,” said Daniel David.

The minister stressed that these changes are part of the curricular reform started in its first mandate and that their purpose is to strengthen the national culture component and to provide students with a clearer perspective on their own history.
