Fabulous performance for Romania: Diana Ion, medal at Europeans of athletics. At 6 inches of gold

Diana Ana Maria Ion won the silver medal in the triplusalt test, on Friday night, at the European Athletics Championships in the Hall (the Netherlands).

The 24-year-old Romanian was not among the favorites, qualifying in the final with the seventh performance (13.88 meters) of the 8 athletes that have taken the last act. But Diana Ion hit all the forecasts and managed to jump the career: 14.31 meters, Best Personal, with whom he ranked, only 6 centimeters from Ana Peletar-Compaore (Spain), the one who conquered gold. The other opponents in the final did not reach the barrier of the 14 meters.

A handful of medals over the past 10 years

Romania participates with 7 athletes in the Europeans from Apeldoorn, but none has succeeded so far in any final. At the last edition of the European rooms, in 2023, in Istanbul, our country won a silver medal through Claudia Bobocea (1,500 m) and a bronze one through Gabriel Bitan (length). These came after 8 years of drought for Romanian athletics (in 2015, in Prague, Marian Oprea and Florentina Marincu took the bronze at – triplusalt, respectively the jump in length).
