PSD and PNL leaders did not reach a final conclusion regarding the merger of the elections, following the coalition meeting held on Thursday afternoon, at the Victoria Palace. Discussions on this topic will continue on Monday.

One of the merging options on which a decision could be taken is the merging of the European Parliament elections with the local elections, considering that there are already European states that have announced that they will have European Parliament elections on the same day as the local elections.

The President of the PNL, Nicolae Ciucă, declared last week in a show on Prima TV that the idea of merging the European parliamentary elections with the local ones can bring a greater turnout.

The liberal leader opined that the normative decisions regarding the merger of the elections would be the responsibility of the Government, if the main elements of the legislative framework regarding the conduct of the elections are not intervened.

On the same subject, the president of the PSD, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, stated on Wednesday that on June 9 European parliamentary elections will definitely be held, stating that he has agreed with the PSD parliamentarians not to vote on any legislative changes regarding combining ballots or shifting them, according to Agerpres.

Ciolacu mentioned that at the moment there is no scenario regarding mergers of elections.

The only discussion that took place in the party was that, if there is an election, we want to know the entire calendar agreed with those who can create a majority in the Parliament, so that the legislative changes can be passed. Truly, I inform you that it is not undemocratic. Belgium and Ireland have announced that they will have local elections at the same time as the European Parliament elections“, said the prime minister.
