FCSB, through Mihai Stoica (60 years old), the president of the champion, is involved in organizing the Duckadam Cup, a competition that aims to discover the future porters. The cup is organized in memory of the one who brought the European Champions Cup in Bucharest on May 7, 1986, deceased at the end of last year, on December 2, at the age of 60.
Helmut Duckadam entered the legend directly
The Duckadam Cup will take place on May 9-11, 2025 and will gather at the beginning some of the most prestigious academies in the country: FCSB, Dinamo, Rapid, Craiova University, U Cluj, Farul, UTA and Poli Timișoara.
Mihai Stoica spoke about the competition, but also about Duckadam, at the services of which FCSB had given up in recent years. However, Helmut has always claimed that “FCSB is Steaua”. Now, the champion is trying to take revenge for Helmut’s removal from the position of image president. The Aradean was cut the salary to the point where he decided to leave.
“I am honored to be with Mrs. Duckadam, before the first tournament that will take place in the memory of the great Helmut Duckadam. I think it is almost impossible not to discover a small goalkeeper who, perhaps, will come to defend at least 11 meters in an important match. I would not dare to hope that a team in Romania will soon reach a major competition final, but … why not?
We are with and we will always be with Mrs. Duckadam with everything needed. Of course, our teams will participate, and I hope I can be present, at least in the last games. I say unfortunately that I have not been close to him in the last period of Helmut’s life, so, at least in spirit, let’s approach once a year, through this competition“Said Stoica.

MM Stoica recognizes the impact of Helmut Duckadam. But it is not clear why he did not insist that he would not leave the club, if it was so important: “The idea of this competition is exceptional. I just tell you so much: I had the opportunity, years in a row, to participate in matches in European competitions and to have the honor and joy of presenting it – regardless of the opponent – on Helmut, on the occasion of official meals.
I was smiling every time they asked me, no matter what the language he spoke: ‘He really is? For real? ‘ And they looked, then said, ‘Yes, yes, he’s!’
The performance he has achieved is unrepeatable-and that’s what we all know. What Duckadam did, with certainty, no one will do. And it seemed to be a pity not to organize such a competition”, Said Mm Stoica.
