The leaders of the governing coalition met again on Wednesday morning for discussions on the draft state budget for 2026. The discussions should be completed today for adoption in the Government at the end of the week.
The coalition decided to end the discussions on the state budget for 2024 on Wednesday, March 4, in a meeting in full format, in order to finalize all chapters and adopt the agreed form, in the Government, at the end of the week.
Discussions with the president Nicușor Dan
According to “Adevărul” sources, the Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, was received on Tuesday in Cotroceni for discussions with President Nicușor Dan on the subject of the state budget, the head of state conditioning the implementation of the referendum on Bucharest.
“Parliament must be pro-active and change the part of local taxes, and one that pertains to the national budget law – the division between the Capital City Hall and the sector town halls. I will not sign the national budget law that ignores the Referendum”, said Nicusor Dan.
We remind you that in 2024 Nicușor Dan initiated a Referendum (validated by the people of Bucharest) with the questions:
- Do you agree that the distribution of income taxes and local taxes and fees between Bucharest City Hall and District City Halls should be approved by the General Council of Bucharest City Hall?
- Do you agree that the Mayor General of the Municipality of Bucharest should issue building permits for the entire administrative territory of the city?
- Do you agree that Bucharest City Hall should finance and implement an education program for health and the prevention of drug use in all schools in Bucharest?
- Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan was also at Cotroceni, who participated in the swearing-in ceremony by the new Minister of Education, Mihai Dimian, but it is not clear if he also participated in the discussions between the two.
PSD conditions
At the same time, PSD insists on the solidarity package. The PSD threatened to block the state budget at the vote in the Legislature, where it ensures the parliamentary majority. Sorin Grindeanu indicated that the project must also respect the point of view of the PSD, which requested the integration of the package of solidarity measures for vulnerable people. However, the package would receive only half of the requested money.
“We do not allow slips, expenses without source or measures without coveragewhich only gives false hope to the vulnerable population”, pointed out the Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, confident that the state budget will be adopted in the Parliament.
