Romanians who raise garages, drivers, stables or other annexes without authorization from the town hall risk huge fines, up to 100,000 lei. The measure is provided in a draft law on the reform of the local public administration, now in public debate.

So far, the construction of garages, fences or other annexes was considered by the local authorities a minor deviation, and the sanctions were more symbolic. However, the draft law proposes drastic sanctions for these situations. Thus, the situations in which such annexes are built will be fined with amounts that start from 1,000 lei and can reach up to 100,000 lei, the document shows, reports Digi24.

Basically, any construction without authorization, no matter how small, can be sanctioned with very large fines. The difference between the minimum and the maximum amount has the role of allowing local authorities to evaluate the severity of each situation, including in the case of large houses, blocks or buildings without the necessary opinions.

Rules and sanctions for specific situations

In situations where there is a building permit, but it is not respected, the proposed fines are between 5,000 and 20,000 lei. In addition, the owner’s refusal to allow access to the control bodies on the property will be sanctioned with a fixed fine of 10,000 lei.
