Foreign Minister Emil Hurezeanu participated in the high-level segment of the 58th session of the UN Human Rights, held in Geneva on Wednesday.

Hurezeanu reaffirmed Romania’s commitment to protecting fundamental rights and democracy and emphasized the importance of stronger mechanisms for investigating human rights violations, especially in Ukraine, informs News.ro.
“In the context of multiple crises that affect the global human rights system, the head of Romanian diplomacy has reaffirmed the commitment of Romania to protect the fundamental rights and freedoms of human and to defend the fundamental principles of democracy and the rule of law.”, It is shown in a MAE statement.
Hurezeanu highlighted the responsibility of the Member States to defend the universality of human rights and pleaded for a UN council “Robust, impartial and efficient, able to respond quickly, adequately and firmly to the flagrant abuses and violations of human rights”, Mentions the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He also emphasized the need to support the activity of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and International Mechanisms that document violations in Ukraine as a result of Russian aggression, but also in other regions affected by conflicts and humanitarian crises.
