Those indictments, the contents of which are not yet public, were issued by a New York grand jury, prosecutors said Thursday during a hearing.
Harvey Weinstein, aged 72, hospitalized on the night of Saturday to Sunday for a heart operation, did not participate in the hearing.
These new charges will be officially communicated to him in court when he can appear.
“He is resting, he is weak”, but “iout of danger for now”a spokesman for Harvey Weinstein, Juda Engelmayer, told AFP on Tuesday, writes Agerpres.
Harvey Weinstein has become one of the most prominent figures in the #MeToo movement, which took root in 2017 when numerous women began to go public with accounts of his alleged sexual misconduct.
Arrested in 2018, Weinstein is detained for sexual assault and rape in the United States.
The former film producer is due to be retried soon in New York after an appeals court in late April overturned his 2020 conviction for raping actress Jessica Mann in 2013 and sexually assaulting a production assistant Mimi Haleyi in 2006.
He remains in custody due to a conviction, from 2023, to 16 years in prison in Los Angeles, for other cases of rape and sexual assault.
The revelations in 2017 about the sexual assaults committed by the former boss of Miramax caused an international shock and gave courage to many victims to speak out. More than 80 women have accused him of harassment, sexual assault or rape, including actresses Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Ashley Judd. Harvey Weinstein has always maintained that the sexual relations were consensual and has denied allegations of rape and sexual assault.
