Free access to MoBU 2024 – the second edition of the largest contemporary art fair in Central and Eastern Europe

MoBU, the largest contemporary art fair in Central and Eastern Europe, opens its doors, on May 29, for a new record edition that will take place at Romexpo, in the Central Pavilion.

The event takes place in a circular space of 22,000 square meters where approximately 200 artists from Great Britain, China, Germany, Japan, Poland, the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Ukraine and Hungary will exhibit in the 50 dedicated stands galleries, independent artists, but also students from the most prestigious profile faculties in Romania: the National University of Arts in Bucharest, the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca, the “George Enescu” National University of Arts in Iași and the Faculty of Arts and Design from Timisoara.

Under the banner “Discover art in another dimension”, MoBU 2024 will have exhibited for sale, from prices starting from a few hundred euros and reaching hundreds of thousands of euros, contemporary works of art in all forms and its manifestations: painting, drawing, mixed techniques, sculpture, ceramics, design, video, installations, performance.

“Although different from the one in 2023, we still hope now that we have found the right formula to connect the public in Romania with the art market. Because contemporary art invites conceptualization and reflection, I invite you to MoBU to discover art in another dimension”, said Demetra Arapu, director of MoBU, about the largest and most important profile event in Romania and the newest art fair contemporary from Central and Eastern Europe.

The organizers propose a program of related events including round tables on contemporary art with the critic Horea Avram, opening, artist-talk, debates, performances, screenings, the InSide ART program with artist-talks and conferences at the Scemtovici & Benowitz Gallery and a painting-speed duel on the MATCA stage at Bookfest. MoBU 2024 will take place in Romexpo's Central Pavilion, in the vicinity of Bookfest, so visitors will have free access to arts and books.

“The second edition of the MoBU international art fair brings together an impressive diversity of visual works, bringing together important works by heritage artists, with the innovative visions of established contemporary artists and emerging young artists. This meeting of past and present provides a unique platform for creative dialogues and artistic discoveries, highlighting continuity and transformation in the visual arts. Visitors are invited to admire and buy a wide range of artistic expressions, from Nicolae Tonitza, Alexandru Ciucurencu, or Corneliu Baba, to the artists of the moment with the latest creations shaping the current artistic landscape. MoBU thus becomes a dynamic space of cultural interaction, where the past meets the present in a new visual dimension. Don't miss the opportunity to connect with the artistic community in Romania in its various forms: art galleries, artist run spaces, independent artists, street artists, Universities and Art Faculties.” declared the artist Mihai Zgondoiu, MoBU ambassador.

“MoBU is, as we already know, the place where collectors, specialists and, of course, the general public meet the most diverse expressions of contemporary art, from approaches in traditional key, to visual experiments and artistic research. It is remarkable that MoBU has the openness and flexibility to include in its program independent (artist-run) spaces, art faculties, a series of presentations and round tables, but also video projections and performative activities. All these make MoBU an unmissable event! See you there!”, says Horea AVRAM, art critic and curator.

In addition to the contemporary art show that they will enjoy in the exhibition space, visitors will also have the chance to win an original work signed by the artist ATOMA by participating in a unique campaign on MoBU's Facebook and Instagram channels.
