Danger on the railway, in the Petroșani station, where a freight train encountered several objects located in the area of the tracks. A rigging device was dismantled and a concrete slab was also found on the line.
The incident took place on Sunday, around 4:10 p.m., on the Timișoara Regional Railway Branch, in Petroșani CF station, on line 2. The freight train was operated by the Rail Cargo Carrier company.
“According to the first information transmitted from the scene, the train initially encountered the plate of the DAM device, the auxiliary device for handling the crane, which had been detached and lifted. Under normal operating conditions, this element is sealed and secured. Later, during the course of the train, a concrete plate related to the cable channel was identified on the line“, CFR transmitted.
CFR: There are indications of an unauthorized intervention
“From the first findings, there are indications of an unauthorized intervention on the elements of the railway infrastructure”, states CFR SA.
For now, the exact circumstances of the incident have not been established. Authorities are yet to determine how the concrete slab ended up on the line and under what circumstances the DAM device was deployed.
The Railway Transport Police has been notified, and its representatives are on the scene to carry out investigations and identify the people involved.
CFR warns: objects on the tracks can cause serious accidents
The National Railway Company “CFR” SA warns of the consequences of unauthorized intervention on the infrastructure.
“CFR SA considers such actions on the railway infrastructure inadmissible. The placement of objects on the railway and unauthorized intervention on the installations can cause serious accidents, can damage the rolling stock and infrastructure and can directly endanger the safety of railway traffic and staff”. the company said.
A concrete slab placed in the track gauge can be a direct obstacle for trains in motion.

After the incident, the specialized staff of CFR SA carried out the necessary checks on the infrastructure and installations in the respective area.

“Investigations by the Railway Transport Police are ongoing, and CFR SA will provide the competent authorities with all the necessary information to clarify the circumstances of the incident”, it says in the company’s press release.
CFR SA reminds that unauthorized access to the railway infrastructure area, the placement of objects on the railway and any intervention on railway installations and equipment are extremely dangerous behaviors, which can generate incidents or accidents with serious consequences.
