From March, hospitals will receive funds from the Ministry of Health for robotically assisted operations

Public hospitals are to receive, starting in March, funds from the Ministry of Health for robotically assisted surgical interventions, Minister Alexandru Rogobete informed on Friday.

“The program for priority actions for robotic surgery, that program through which the Ministry of Health directly finances public hospitals that have robots and that perform robotic-assisted surgical interventions is completed, it will be approved, with the approval of the budget for the year 2026, and I estimate that, starting in March, public hospitals will receive funds directly from the Ministry of Health for robotic-assisted surgical interventions”, declared Rogobete, on the occasion of a working visit to the new ATI Neonatology section of the Emergency Clinical Hospital for Children “Marie Curie”.

He also recalled that, last December, the Ministry of Health made transparent and will be approved together with the new budget, for the first time in Romania, a national screening and prevention program settled for neonatal screening, the number of biomarkers will increase from three, as there are currently, to nineteen.

“Then we discuss the area of screening and prevention for cancer and we will have the national screening programs for breast cancer, colorectal cancer and cervical cancer, and the area of nutrition and metabolic diseases will follow, where obesity will also be included, but for the obesity component, I am in fairly advanced discussions with the professional societies, but also with the industry, because I want for patients diagnosed with obesity to be able to settle those treatments for maintaining weight”the minister mentioned.

Alexandru Rogobete added that he is in the process of changing the way the guards are made. “We are discussing a project of a normative act that is underway, namely the introduction of several changes in the mechanism for making guards, here we are discussing twelve-hour guards, the division of guards into several components, home guard, monitoring guard, emergency guard. (…) I opposed and was against the 10% cut in medical staff incomes, but I support performance-based pay and am (…) against those who, at twelve o’clock, film themselves in private hospitals, how they perform surgical interventions, while they are during working hours”the Minister of Health pointed out.
