Starting from Wednesday, July 3, simple temporary passports will only be able to be issued in certain situations: objective and urgent.

The situations in which it will be possible to issue simple temporary passports exclude cases where the person’s movement on the territory of another state is based exclusively on tourist reasons, according to the new legislative changes in the passport system.
“Objective and urgent situations must be proven with documents that show the need for the person to travel abroad. At the same time, we draw attention to the fact that there are countries that do not allow entry into their national territory with a simple temporary passport, in which sense we recommend accessing the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, www.mae.ro, the travel conditions section, before making the trip“, informs a press release from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) sent on Wednesday.
Also, under the new changes, passports declared lost, destroyed or stolen will be null and void starting today and cannot be used, even if they are later found.
If someone finds a travel document declared lost or stolen, they must immediately present it to the nearest Community Public Passport Service, the General Directorate of Passports or diplomatic missions or consular offices of Romania.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) reminds that the loss or destruction of the simple electronic or temporary passport must be declared by the holder either at any public community passport service or the General Directorate of Passports, if they are in the country, or at the diplomatic missions or consular offices of Romania, if he is abroad.
In addition, any theft of travel documents must be promptly reported to the nearest police station, either in the country or in the country where the theft took place, and a certificate must be requested to confirm that the incident has been reported.
Amendment and completion of Law no. 248/2005 regarding the regime of free movement of Romanian citizens abroad was promulgated a month ago by President Klaus Iohannis.
“The simple temporary passport is issued by the public community passport services or by the diplomatic missions and consular offices of Romania abroad to which the applications were submitted, to Romanian citizens who meet the conditions provided by this law and who are not in one of the situations of suspension of the exercise of the right to free movement abroad or in other cases where the court has imposed the obligation not to leave the territory of Romania, under the terms of the criminal law, in the following situations: when the minor is going to move abroad for studies or to participate in official competitions or to undergo medical treatment without which his life or health is endangered and there is no time necessary to obtain the consent of the other parent, for Romanian citizens abroad who no longer possess valid travel documents and who declare that it is necessary and urgent to continue his trip abroad or to regulate his stay/legal situation on the territory of a state, in objective and urgent situations, in which the person’s presence on the territory of another state is necessary and there is no time required for issuing and issuing the passport simply electronically or it was submitted to obtain visas“, the law provides.
