Gabriela Ruse left the Roland Garros tournament prematurely, after she had to withdraw in the first round of the competition. The player from Romania, ranked 77th in the world, met the Polish Magdalena Frech, occupying the 46th WTA position.
The match was balanced from the start. Ruse started well and led 2-0 in the first set, but her opponent quickly came back and turned the score around. The Romanian continued to fight and managed to equalize at 5-5 after a set with many breaks and intense exchanges. It then came to the tie-break, where Gabriela had the advantage at one point, leading 5-3, but Frech was more confident in the end and won the set 7-6.
After more than an hour of demanding play, the physical problems spoke for the athlete from Romania. At the beginning of the second set, with the score 2-1 for Magdalena Frech, Gabriela Ruse requested the intervention of the physiotherapist. After a few minutes of medical treatment, the Romanian decided that she could no longer continue the game and withdrew from the match.
Also at Roland Garros, Sorana Cîrstea will play in the first round against the French Ksenia Efremova, a player who received a wild card to participate in the main draw.
