Geoana compares his return to politics with the “phoenix bird”. Revelations about how many mandates in Cotroceni he actually wants

The Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Mircea Geoană, stated in an interview, regarding the accusations regarding the plagiarism of the doctoral thesis, that they are “a peripheral, nonessential episode”, stating that he was going to be politically dead many times but came back like the phoenix bird. Geoană states that his project for Romania is for 10 years.

“The question is, is it still worth returning to Romanian politics? After a human life, I have nothing to prove, I’m an accomplished man, after the job at NATO I can go do what I want with my life (…) It’s effectively a storm in a teacup , there is nothing. I don’t ask my question from something like that. I have a tanned skin, I have received attacks and things in my life that have strengthened me. I was to be politically dead many times and in some form as if…- sort of the phoenix bird. (…) What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, it’s a true saying. And then I don’t have a problem with these attacks“, said Mircea Geoană, in an interview with Fanatik.ro, when asked if after the accusations of plagiarism he thought about leaving the unofficial race for this year’s presidential elections.

The number two in NATO states that he was also in “partisan politics, very deeply embedded” and does not speak of that period, but believes that today “lumea wants something different, it wants something that can impose on the parties some minimum rules for better functioning in society, not be in anyone’s pocket and represent everyone“.

Asked if he didn’t think for a second after the plagiarism scandal appeared to give up, Mircea Geoană answered: “It is effectively a mosquito bite“.

The Deputy Secretary General of NATO says that he asked himself, but he asked his close associates if “it is worth getting involved in politics in Romania, which often smells bad”, and came to a conclusion: “personal comfort is less important than what you can give back to your country”.

Geoana stated that the accusations of plagiarism are “a peripheral, nonessential episode“. “The bottom line is that in a way you are not allowed to abandon the national project and if you were not convinced that in the next ten years we can even go to the next level, we can even do things better “, added the NATO Deputy Secretary General.

Geoana: The next decade is very important

Asked if he wants two mandates, Mircea Geană answered; “the next decade is very important“. “Forget also Keir Starmer, who won yesterday dramatically and decisively in Great Britain, his project is for ten years, although they have five years of the mandate“, added Geoana.

Asked if his project is still for ten years, Geoană answered “also for ten years“. “Because there are things you can do quickly but there are also things that need a little time. First of all, I have to decide to run, secondly, let the Romanians vote for me, finish the first mandate, and then we’ll talk more”added Mircea Geoană.

According to a PressOne investigation, Mircea Geoană, the deputy general secretary of NATO, allegedly plagiarized substantially, through translation, in his doctoral thesis. Most of the content would come from official American documents from the time of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, the quoted source said.
