After Bayern Munich's draw at home against Real Madrid (2-2) and Dortmund's success against PSG, Germany has 18,357 points and can no longer be reached by France, which will reach at most 18,000 points, or by England (at best 18.250), Italy taking first place with 19.428 points.
In the top four places in the 2023 UEFA rankings based on the five 2018/23 seasons, Germany, England, Spain and Italy were certain, at the start of the 2023/24 season, that they would benefit from four places for the group stage of the next edition of the Champions League .
With the change in the formula, the Champions League will go from 32 to 36 teams, distributed in a single group, with eight matches in the first phase of the competition. Two of the four additional places are awarded to the two best nations during the European season.
After the quarter-finals, two weeks ago, Italy secured one of the two additional places, and Germany obtained the second place on Wednesday. It will even go to Dortmund, now in 5th place in the Bundesliga, which is sure to finish the championship in one of the top five places, but is 5 points behind RB Leipzig, occupying the fourth position, and 7 points behind Stuttgart, who is in 3rd place with three stages left.
