On Monday night, the Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, published on the social networks photographs with the portions of food received by the patients within the Satu Mare County Emergency Hospital, accompanied by a direct criticism to the management of the medical unit.

“Good appetite for those in the management of the Satu Mare County Emergency Hospital!”, wrote the minister, adding: “It is said that you are what you eat, but I think this time we can paraphrase the model” you are what you serve for your patients “.

The approach is part of a larger campaign by which Alexandru Rogobete intends to draw an alarm about the food offered to patients in public hospitals. He believes that the food offered to patients is a relevant indicator of the quality of the medical act and respect for the hospitalized.

“Do not try to explain how” you can’t ” – because in many other places it can!”, The minister said, recalling that there are hospitals in Romania who, despite the same budgetary constraints, manage to offer patients decent and nutritious food.

The minister also reminded the fact that in July he launched an online form through which patients and belongings can send photos and notifications about the quality of food in hospitals, available here.

In a previous statement, Rogobete rejected the criticisms that he deals only with “mini-reforms”, specifying that the transformation of the health system must start with small, but applicable and immediately impact.

“I reproach me to choose mini-reforms in which the health system does not stand in these mini-reforms. I would answer very firmly here: I do not think there is a measure that will change the health system overnight. I think many small measures, but with immediate effect they will lead to an important transformation of the image. Dissatisfied with what their quality looks like and how it is ”,
declared the minister in July.

He then launched a challenge to hospital managers who accept low quality menus: to serve a lunch in their offices, exactly with the food that patients receive. Moreover, the minister recalled that there are legal levers for sanctioning or even interrupting contracts with companies that do not meet the minimum standards.

By reactivating the call to the online form, the minister encourages patients to continue reporting the food conditions in hospitals, thus contributing to the transparency and responsibility of the medical system.
