Government approves purchase of 32 US F-35 jets: “permanent access”

The Romanian government has approved a draft law aimed at the purchase of 32 F-35 aircraft, announced the spokesperson of the Executive, Mihai Constantin. The project was sent to the Parliament in emergency procedure to be approved.

“A draft law was approved and sent to the Parliament in an emergency procedure proposing that the Government of Romania award the Government of the United States of America the ‘Letter of Offer and Acceptance’ type contracts for the purchase of 32 F-35 aircraftof engines, munitions, initial logistical support, permanent access to the global F-35 support chain, equipment and services and training of aviation aircrew, support personnel and aviation engineering technical personnel, cryptographic equipment with regime especially, specialized assistance, as well as the implementation of industrial cooperation projects consisting in the transfer of technology or products”said Mihai Constantin, on Thursday, in a press conference at the Victoria Palace.

Also, the spokesperson of the Government specified that, in parallel, it is proposed that the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism conclude some understanding agreements with the manufacturer of the F-35 plane, for the realization of industrial cooperation projects.

This acquisition is part of Romania’s plan to modernize the Air Force, in the context in which the F-35 aircraft are some of the most advanced fighter aircraft, with stealth capabilities and cutting-edge technology.
