He lost his job after “accusing” the Croatian footballers of drinking alcohol in the training camp at the World Cup

The Croatian national team faced an unexpected situation right before the World Championship. An employee of the hotel where the delegation is staying was fired after he made public several details from inside the team’s camp.

An interview cost him his job

The hotel’s catering manager in Alexandria, Virginia, gave an anonymous interview to the media, but his identity was quickly discovered. He revealed aspects related to the players’ diet and the rules imposed during the team’s stay.

Among the information that emerged was the fact that Croatian footballers were allowed to consume wine in the training camp. At the same time, the employee explained that the team’s menu is mostly based on fish and seafood dishes, to ensure an easy diet in the conditions of the high temperatures in the United States.

Although the details made public were not considered particularly important, the Croatian Federation took the case seriously, considering that the confidentiality agreement had been breached. Consequently, the employee was dismissed.

Croatia begin their World Cup adventure on June 17 when they take on England at 11:00 p.m. Zlatko Dalic’s team is in Group L, along with Ghana and Panama.
