Ciprian Ciucu says that he regrets, from a personal point of view, that he ran for the Capital City Hall, stating that he took over an administration burdened by debts and financial problems. The mayor warns that the municipality risks becoming insolvent if it loses the 3.5 billion lei lawsuit with the Government.
In an interview, Ciprian Ciucu spoke about the financial problems he says he inherited at the Capital City Hall.
“He made me run for the hell of these two years, I found the city the way I found it. On a personal level, I regret that I ran. On a public level, no, I take on this mission. It was good to be district mayor, on a personal level. Maybe I didn’t even have a criminal record.” stated Ciprian Ciucu, for Cotidianul.
The Mayor General says that the change produced in 2025 only concerned the person in charge of the City Hall, while the administrative apparatus and management structures remained the same. “I came to a table set. The only thing that changed in 2025 was the mayor. The mayor stayed there, with the two deputy mayors and other people in office,” he said.
Ciprian Ciucu claims that he has a choice between populist measures, which would delay solving the problems, and unpopular decisions aimed at avoiding a financial blockade of the municipality.
“I am the mayor who drew the non-winning lot and who has to make the unpopular decisions. I have two options: pretend not to see, invent opponents, adopt a sovereignist discourse, take loans and complicate the situation that will explode. Or make the unpopular decisions, regardless of the electoral cost, so as not to become insolvent”said the mayor.
“If we lose the case with the Government, we become insolvent”
In the opinion of the mayor, the biggest risk for the capital’s finances is the lawsuit pending with the Government, as a result of which the municipality could be obliged to pay 3.5 billion lei.
“If we lose the case with the Government and we have to give them 3.5 billion lei, we become insolvent. Let’s see then how many people flock to be general mayors“, warned Ciprian Ciucu.
In the same interview, Ciprian Ciucu stated that his material situation has not changed.
“My lifestyle has not changed, I live in a 3-room apartment and it hurts my soul when my child tells me he wants a bigger room”, the capital’s mayor also said.
