“The History of Romanians/Romania” will become a distinct discipline in the common high school trunk, the Ministry of Education announced, following the discussions and working meeting with the representatives of the Romanian Academy and of the Faculties of History in Universities.

“After clarifying the preservation of the Latin language in the specialized curriculum, I am glad to be the minister who can contribute, together with the top specialists of the field, to the return of the” history of Romanians and Romania “(will not be finalized by the Romanian Academy) As a high school discipline at the high school level ”, said Daniel David.
The minister also announced that following the discussions with the representatives of the Romanian Academy and the Faculties of History, “Accepting their serious and responsible memory ”, they agreed that “We will collaborate to ensure the universities preparation of teachers in acquiring modern methods of education, and the universities will be more directly involved in the continuous training of pre -university teachers.”

Following the discussions and working meetings today, February 13, with the representatives of the Romanian Academy and the Faculties of History in the Universities of the Country, the Minister of Education and Research, prof. Dr. Psych. Daniel David, said:
“I am glad that the period of debate on framework plan projects for high school begins to foreshadow modernizations in education, in general, and in history, in particular. As I said at the time of launching the framework plans, along with science, religion and training for life, an essential element is the one related to the national culture.
After clarifying the preservation of the Latin language in the specialized curriculum, I am glad to be the minister who can contribute, together with the top specialists of the field, to the return of the “history of Romanians and Romania” (the name will be finalized by the Romanian Academy) as Discipline by self-standing level, as I have expressed my interest from the beginning of public debates. More precisely, following the discussions and meetings of work with the representatives of the Romanian Academy and the faculties of history in the universities of the country, accepting their serious and responsible memory, I agreed:
- The current model of teaching history in high school must be improved and rethought;
- “The History of Romanians/Romania” will become a distinct discipline in the common trunk; We will work collaboratively on the program in order to have a more airy and more attractive content, including with distinct elements of consolidation, remedies and relevance for life of the acquired skills;
- We will collaborate to ensure the universities preparation of teachers in acquiring modern methods of education, and the universities will be more directly involved in the continuous training of pre -university teachers;
- We will discuss other aspects of the memory after the diagnostic and evaluation stage of the education and research system that we announced for May (2025).
I thank my colleagues and specialists in history for the constructive opening and I encourage all the people of education to use rational and wise period of debate the framework plans for the modernization of Romanian education! ”
At the beginning of the month, the faculties of history in Romania but also representatives of the Romanian Academy sent to the Minister of Education, Daniel David, a memo in which they propose solutions for studying history in high schools.
