Tourists visiting Transylvania now have the opportunity to experience a unique type of holiday: accommodation in churches and parochial houses transformed into modern spaces, full of history and charm.

This summer, 22 churches and parish houses in Transylvania are ready to receive their guests. In the village of Curciu, tourists can stay even in the former house of the bell or in the chapel of the Saxon Church.

The price of a night of accommodation is 500 lei for four people, and the space offers all the comfort of a modern apartment, but arranged in a historical framework. For example, the living room is located in the former tower of piercing, used by Saxons in the past.

Not far away, in the town of Moșna, the parish house can be rented for 350 lei per night.

A tourist tells excitedly: “It is a unique experience from my point of view, I do not think that in many places you can stay in the courtyard of the fortress, hear the morning organ.”

The taste of place and special events

In addition to accommodation, tourists can also enjoy local dishes. Lunch is prepared by a village housewife, who uses ingredients in the area, offering an authentic culinary experience.

In Axente Sever, the former chambers and cereal warehouses of the church have been transformed into small apartments. And in Cristian, the parish house in the church yard can host up to 30 people. Here, each guest donates as much as it considers it appropriate, but the minimum recommended donation is 60 lei, according to PRO TV.

The Foundation of Fortified Churches is the initiator of this project of tourist recovery. The accommodation spaces are spread in 22 localities, of which 14 are in Sibiu county and 8 in Brașov county.

During the summer, numerous events will be organized in these locations: who in the light of chandeliers, film projections, concerts and brunch, offering tourists a complete experience, which combines relaxation with culture.

A huge, rediscovered heritage

In Transylvania there are over 160 fortified churches, many of them with huge tourist potential. These initiatives not only offer original holiday alternatives, but also contribute to the preservation of local heritage.
