Even if most of the time adults are the ones who feel the effects of stress, specialists talk about a phenomenon that makes its presence felt more and more among children.

How do children feel their parents' stress?

Very often, children are considered to be free of stress, considering that this disturbing factor has, at young ages, very few sources of origin. However, psychologists sound the alarm among parents and warn them that their mood can negatively influence the emotional situation of their little ones.

It is clear that there are more factors that generate stress in an adult's life than in a child's life. The child has stress factors at school, but there should not be there either, the child should learn for pleasure, but that is another aspect. However, it is adults who can negatively influence a child's mood“, stated Andreea Coman, clinical psychologist.

Psychologists claim that a child feels the stress of parents to a very high intensity, almost the same as adults.

Very often, stress occurs in families, which generates arguments and shortcomings. Unfortunately, at these moments, the child also takes part, who notices, sees and feels what happens between parents, between adults. It is important for adults to know that the level of stress caused by such situations can be amplified for children. Children can perceive a single more heated argument, a worse mood of a parent, as something much more serious. Thus, the child will become anxious, he will feel that he is the cause of misunderstandings between the parents. Thus, his performance will gradually decrease when we talk about school or other activities“, added the psychologist from Iași.

How can children be protected from stress?

Psychologists also come up with a series of tips to help parents, so that they can better manage such situations.

If the child witnesses such episodes, it is important that the parents talk to him, explain to him what the situation is and that things will be resolved soon. The child must not live in uncertainty, he must have security. At the same time, parents must ensure that minors take part in happy family moments. The child needs to see that the parents communicate, love each other and solve problems together, overcome obstacles“, concluded the psychologist from Iași.
