How diabetes can be prevented among children and young people. “We need to become more compassionate”

Type II diabetes is an increasingly common health problem in Romania. This condition is mainly caused by an unhealthy lifestyle, which is why doctors recommend movement and balanced meals.

Obesity and sedentarism The first causes of type II photo diabetes truth

Romania is one of the European countries that are quite bad in terms of sanitary prevention, being few Romanians who go to routine medical checks. More worrying, doctors say, is the fact that generations of young people and children are increasingly directed to obesity and sedentary lifestyle. The two are the main causes of the development of type II diabetes in the years of maturity. Statistics come to support this cruel reality. The official data show that in 2021 there have been over 800,000 cases of diabetes, and the incidence is constantly increasing in the last 10 years.

“Prevention must be the key. And everything is in the power of each of us. Let’s try to eat healthier, make more movement, control our body mass index, but also the overall health”, Says the doctor Corneliu Saradan, from the Botoșani Public Health Directorate. Currently, about 11% of Romania’s population suffers from diabetes.

Increasingly corpulent children, increasing danger at maturity

Corneliu Saradan, a specialist in the field of prevention and health education, says that for some time there is a very worrying tendency to an unhealthy unbalanced lifestyle. It all begins, he thinks, from childhood habits, first of all about nutrition. The natural lifting of the standard of living from the end of the 20th century has led to a higher consumption of food. In addition, ultra-processive preparations, but also fast-food caloric bombs have become a fashion, especially among teenagers.

“There is a tendency to eat more, better, and, in this way, lacking the compensatory physical activity, there is a surplus of weight. Continuing with the same lifestyle, overweight turns into obesity. In turn, with the passage of years, obesity becomes a risk factor for the occurrence of type 2 diabetes “says the doctor. The doctor believes that sanitary education is necessary as subject in the school syllabus, but also an effort from parents to orient children towards healthy eating.

“We have to promote a balanced diet in children. That is, we have to pay on fruits and vegetables instead of ultra -home products and excess sweets. I know it is easy to say and more difficult to achieve, but it is a responsibility that we need to assume precisely to increase healthier generations, to give them the chance to not get sick, not to suffer at maturity. These aspects should be promoted at school and through a health education ”says Corneliu Saradan.

Sedentarism and broken balance

The second factor that favors the appearance of type II diabetes is sedentary lifestyle. On the one hand, young people eat more and more ultra -home preparations, fats and highly high calorie products, and on the other side make less and less movement. “I remember that in the 1990s, when I was a kid, I was all outside the morning until the evening, on holidays, of course. And when we had school, after doing our homework, we were running quick to play football, square, seven stones, which was playing then. Now, everyone is keeping an eye on the phones and I do nothing ”says a Botosani.

“There is calories consumption but also physical activity. It must be a balance, a balance between the two. If I eat a lot, but I do not move, then I am sedentary, exposed to overweight and implicitly of diabetes ”completes Corneliu Saradan.

“The amount of food consumed at a single meal matters. We need to become more compassionate. At the same time, the movement plays an important role. In vain do they reduce the portions of food if they stay all day in the chair and do not do any physical activity. Obesity presents high risks, can lead to high blood pressure, dyslipidemia, diabetes, cardiovascular disease – a whole chain of conditions caused by extra pounds. “says Carmen Galiano, primary diabetes, nutrition and metabolic diseases.

The doctor shows that due to the increasingly common obesity in children, the incidence of type 2 diabetes has increased in decreasing age groups. “Under the conditions of current life, cases of diabetes are growing and, unfortunately, more and more children are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and the main reason is to increase obesity among the little ones.”says Dr. Carmen Galiano. And the type diabetes has very serious complications, especially if it is not under control. “Type 2 diabetes, through its complications, namely retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy and so on, affects all other organs in the body”adds Corneliu Saradan.

Doctors say that type II diabetes can be avoided by a healthy lifestyle, with a balanced diet, with a lot of movement and as few vices, such as alcohol or tobacco.
