Almost one and a half million Romanians chose to spend their holidays in Greece last year. The dream landscapes, the azure sea and quality services are just some of the arguments of the Greeks, to which one more, essential one is added: the low prices compared to other countries.

The prices on the Romanian coast often drive away Romanian tourists. And the competition of the resorts in Greece, Turkey or even Bulgaria, more elegant and with prices for every pocket, is merciless. And because all of Europe is under the siege of inflation, many Romanians want to know before going on vacation what prices await them. This is also the case of a tourist who wants to go to Halkidiki and asked for advice on a Facebook group of Romanians who go on vacation in Greece. That’s how he found out that Greece welcomes Romanians with prices for all pockets, but anyway lower than those in Romania.
“Hello, we are going to spend our vacation in Greece, Halkidiki area at the end of July. I understand that prices have gone up a lot in terms of terrace menus, cigarettes and food. Can you help us get an idea of what this growth means, what prices to expect?”, he posted.
Responses were prompt and people tried to come up with clarifications. The basic idea was that Greece is relatively cheap or anyway cheaper than Romania.
“That’s what they say every year. Their prices are also adjusted, just like ours”someone commented.
“I was in Greece last week, not in Halkidiki, but I think there are no big differences. I ate on the terraces at prices similar to ours, a traditional gyros in the market is 3.5 euros, other more sophisticated dishes a bit more expensive. The most I paid for a dinner was around 40 euros”, someone else wrote to him. “How many people?”, came a question. “Two individuals“, he answered.
More expensive than previous years
Others came up with recommendations. “Cigarettes from Bulgaria. They are cheaper,” wrote another member of the group.
“We are in Paralia, and the prices are ok. At the beach a beer, coffee, or frape, 5 euros. At the market, a beer is 1 euro, wine is 2 euro. Generally cheaper than here. A portion of fish and seafood for two people is 20 euros. Soup is 7 euros, salads 6-7 euros, delicacies 14-16 euros. Anyway, there are prices for all budgets and quality goodse”, wrote another netizen.
“You can also eat the 2nd course with salad and bread for 6 euros per person… it depends on your preferences“, explained another member of the group. “Take a ~10% margin over last year!”someone else recommended them.
“Today I saw a picture taken on Sithonia, fruits and vegetables are cheaper than in the country, alcohol at the same price… if you want to compare the prices at the tavern, take the prices on the Romanian coast as a reference, I’m sure that all Greece it will be cheaper, or at least the same price“, was another opinion. “It is”, the answer came promptly from the group, and people agreed.
