Italy, one of Romanians’ favorite summer vacation destinations, comes with higher prices this year, from sunbeds on the beach and restaurant meals to accommodation costs.
There are still plenty of ways tourists can spend less money on a holiday in Italy.
Choosing free beaches, booking plane tickets in advance and knowing the local customs can make the difference between an expensive vacation and a financially balanced one.
One of the most important costs for tourists remains access to private beaches. In Italy, most of the coastline is managed by private establishments, and there is a fee for umbrellas and sunbeds.
In 2026, renting an umbrella and two sunbeds for a week reaches, on average, 225 euros, about 6% more than last season.
The highest rates are in Sicily, where costs have even increased by 16% compared to the previous year, and a place on the beach can reach around 237 euros per week. At the opposite pole are the resorts of Rimini and Lignano, considered among the most affordable in Italy, where the same service costs under 160 euros.
For those who want to reduce the holiday budget, there is, however, a very popular alternative: “spiaggia libera”, the sections of public beach where tourists can set up their own towel and umbrella for free.
The good news comes from the area of air transport. Even though tourist services have become more expensive, plane tickets to Italy continue to be advantageous for those who plan their vacation in advance.
Return flights to destinations such as Rome, Naples, Sardinia, Sicily or Puglia can cost between 30 and 120 euros, depending on the booking period and the airline.
Specialists recommend avoiding weekend departures, when demand is higher and tickets are usually more expensive.
