What salaries do teachers in Germany have
Prof. Dr. Romanița Constantinescu stated that in Germany the salary of a debutant teacher starts from 4,511 gross euros, being comparable to that of beginner judges. “4511 Euro Brutto, the largest in the EU, at a great distance from Denmark, the next one, with 3,998 euros”, explains the teacher.
But there are teachers with lower salaries. It is about the so -called auxiliary teachers, who are working next to a titular teacher for two years. They have a salary of 1,600 gross euros.
How Germany’s teachers are training
The teachers who teach at the primary and general school are formed over the course of seven years. After finishing college, they give the license and master’s exam, then follow, for two years, the so -called referendar. “Teachers, 5-8 teachers from the General School, teachers for vocational schools and helping schools are trained within the pedagogical universities (in the past pedagogical institutes). The emphasis falls on pedagogy and psychology. Only secondary school and high school teachers are trained at universities. They follow a special course, called the didactic path, with many pedagogy and school psychology courses. The master’s degree is a pedagogical master’s degree with a nucleus of specialized courses ”, explains the teacher.
In Germany, the double specialization is mandatory. “Any of the school disciplines, such as mathematics-sports, can be combined. The teachers with rare combinations have a better chance, however, most are predictable, German-historical, mathematics-physical, physics-chemistry. Often students add the third specialization to the basic specializations ”, says the teacher.
After taking the license exam, held within the University, in many lands follow the state exam, organized by the ministry, “And which is very hard. The Baden-Württemberg land gave up the state exam a few years ago, due to lack of teachers. ”
Following the extended practice period or 2 -year -old referendaries: “During this time, graduates who want to become teachers hold courses under supervision, continue to train, know the functioning of the school and the obligations of evaluation, reporting, etc. Those who are not fit and do not get appropriate qualifications can miss the entry into education”.
As for their social state, it is similar to that of graduates of law and medicine, “Thanks to the long period of training, with the practical internship that is called a referendar for education and justice and residency for doctors.”
How are teachers employed in German schools
Employment in German schools is done by applying to the educational units that announce a free post. “The decision belongs to the competition commission, organized by the colleagues from the respective specialization and chaired by the school principal. After a few years of experience, teachers can opt to become state officials. ” It is a kind of Romanian degree. This means that the teacher undertakes not to leave that school until the end of his career. “It can, however, be detached, but only with the approval of the Directorate. He also renounces the right to strike, as well as the leave without payment. It receives health insurance in the private system and the contribution to the pension fund is taken entirely by the state. About 30% of teachers become “state officials”, concludes the teacher.
