The voting intention of Romanians according to age shows “spectacular results”, says sociologist Remus Ștefureac, who analyzes the results of the Informat.ro-INSCOP Barometer, which he says reveals the inability of the big parties to overcome symbolic thresholds of support among young people and active adults.

Two thirds of young people vote, in this order, with AUR, SENS and USR, according to the Informat.ro–INSCOP Barometer.
“The contrast between the 18-29 generation (two-thirds of young people vote, in that order, with AUR, SENS and USR) and the 60+ (two thirds of seniors vote with PSD and AUR, in that order) illustrate two distinct political continents. Practically, if only young people aged 18-29 voted, a non-parliamentary party like SENS would be Romania’s second party, while for people over 60 years old, this party does not exist”, say Remus Ștefureac, director of Inscop Research, in a post on Facebook.
“Seniors favor stability and social protection, young people show a preference for radical options”
According to the sociologist, the Informat.ro-INSCOP barometer highlights a strong polarization between generations.
“The young and active adult electorate (18–59 years) favors the AUR, while the 60+ segment remains highly oriented towards the PSD. This difference signals a value split between the generations formed in distinct socio-political contexts and suggests profound transformations in the model of political socialization. If seniors privilege stability and social protection, young people show a preference for radical options and net change. This polarization represents a major challenge to democratic cohesion and the capacity of the political system to formulate inclusive policies”.
“A serious crisis of political representation”
According to the sociologist, the dominant support given to AUR by the 30-44 age groups indicates “a possible maturation of an anti-system orientation that transcends conjunctural dissatisfaction”.
“The profile of an electorate that articulates a systemic critique of the post-1989 political order, combining socio-economic claims with elements of nationalism and institutional mistrust, is taking shape. Also, the results of the Informed Barometer point ro–INSCOP reveal the inability of the big parties to overcome symbolic thresholds of support among young people and active adults. The weakening of these poles indicates a serious crisis of political representation amid diminishing confidence in the competence and authenticity of the elites who have dominated the political scene for the past two decades“, says the director of Inscop Research.
About the Informat.ro Barometer – INSCOP
The Informat.ro Barometer – INSCOP Research is a monthly opinion poll conducted by INSCOP Research at the behest of the Informat.ro news platform in partnership with the Strategic Thinking Group think-tank.
The data were collected between October 25 and November 2, 2025. Research method: interview through questionnaire. The data were collected by the CATI method (telephone interviews), the volume of the simple, stratified sample being 3000 people, representative of the significant socio-demographic categories (sex, age, occupation) for the non-institutionalized population of Romania, aged 18 and over. The maximum allowed error of the data is ± 1.8%, at a confidence level of 95%.
The survey carried out in November focused on only two questions (the direction of the country and the intention to vote for political parties), but it was applied to a significantly larger sample (of 3000 respondents), compared to the usual samples of 1100 respondents where we usually ask 25-30 questions.
